Breast Reconstruction

Reconstruction of a breast that has been removed due to cancer or other disease is one of the most rewarding surgical procedures available today. New medical techniques and devices have made it possible for surgeons to create a breast that can come close in form and appearance to matching a natural breast. Frequently, reconstruction is possible immediately following breast removal (mastectomy), so the patient wakes up with a breast mound already in place, while some women prefer to wait to have any reconstruction done, which is referred to as delayed reconstruction. Dr. Michaud performs coordinated surgery with breast cancer patients and their doctors several times each month and can help you achieve a sense of normalcy after the trying time you have been through following your diagnosis. Most breast reconstruction surgeries are done in two stages. We will go over the procedures that are options for you at your initial consultation so that you are able to make a well-informed decision.

The following video presentation from Understand.com gives a very good overview of the types of breast reconstruction that are available to give you a better understanding of what breast reconstruction entails.
